Fix Tunnelcast's Discord Permissions

When Tunnelcast can't send messages to your configured Discord channel, you'll see a Discord Permission Issue alert on your game server settings page. You'll also receive a notification so you know right away. Follow these steps to fix it.

This warning clears automatically once you've fixed the permissions.

The Alert You'll See

It sits at the top of your game server's settings page, and it names what's missing.

Server settings · Alert

When the channel your server relays to is missing permissions, the alert lists them by the names Discord uses, so you can turn exactly those on in step 2.

1

Check the Channel Still Exists

Open Discord and make sure the channel you configured on the Discord tab hasn't been deleted or renamed. If it's gone, pick a different channel in the Discord tab and save.

2

Verify Tunnelcast's Channel Permissions

In Discord, right-click the channel → Edit Channel → Permissions. Make sure Tunnelcast (or its role) has these permissions:

Required. Tunnelcast can't relay without these:

  • View Channel: Tunnelcast must be able to see the channel.
  • Send Messages: required to post relay messages.
  • Embed Links: needed for rich embed messages (server status, player lists, etc.).
  • Read Message History: lets Tunnelcast find and update its own messages, like the live status.
  • Use External Emojis: shows game and country icons next to relayed messages.

Recommended. This improves where the relay notice lives:

  • Manage Channels: lets Tunnelcast keep the relay-disclosure notice in the channel topic. Without it, relaying still works and the notice is still shown. It's just posted as a message in the channel instead of the topic.
If the channel is under a category, check that the category permissions aren't overriding the channel-level settings. Discord inherits from the category by default.
3

Re-invite Tunnelcast (if needed)

If Tunnelcast was kicked or its role was removed, re-invite it using the link below. This won't affect your existing server link or configuration.

Wait for the Alert to Clear

Once the permissions are correct, the alert will disappear automatically the next time Tunnelcast sends a message to the channel. You don't need to do anything else. Just make sure a game server is running and relaying events.
