Introduction

This guide connects your game server to Discord in seven steps. The video below walks through all of them in about two minutes, and each step is written out after it.

1

Download Tunnelcast

Grab the latest release and unzip everything into your game server's System directory.

Tunnelcast-latest.zip.zip · Latest release
2

Create an Account

Hit the Sign in button in the top right corner to create an account. Already logged in? Skip this step.

3

Link Your Discord Server

Head over to your dashboard and click Link Discord Server. Follow the prompts to connect your Discord server to your Tunnelcast account. If you get stuck, we've got a dedicated guide that walks you through it.

4

Register Your Game Server

Now that your Discord server is linked, click Add Game Server in your dashboard.

First pick the Discord server you linked in step 3. The invite link is optional: players see it in the in-game Discord overlay.

Add game server · Discord settings

Then turn on Post activity feed and choose the channel Tunnelcast posts in, such as #relay-chat. A channel that another of your servers already posts to is marked "in use".

Add game server · Live feed

Once everything looks good, hit Create Server and you're set.

Below the live feed you'll also see Live status message: one Discord message that keeps itself up to date with your server. It's optional, and you can turn it on any time. See Live Status Message.

5

Configure Tunnelcast

Tunnelcast already includes a default Tunnelcast.ini in the download. After registering your server, copy the server token, open the Tunnelcast.ini file in your game server's System directory, and replace the Token value.

[Tunnelcast.TunnelcastSettings]
bDebug=False
bDebugDataFlow=False
bAutoReconnect=True
ReconnectInterval=5.000000
MaxReconnectInterval=60.000000
ConnectTimeout=10.000000
MaxQueuedEvents=1000
HostName=gateway.tunnelcast.app
Port=13000
Token=1337df8c4b4e9pi44zz0178a
bAllowRemoteControl=True
ChatSpectatorName=Discord
RemoteProcessingEventBusSubscriberClass=Class'Tunnelcast.RemoteProcessingEventBusSubscriber'
GameHandlers=(GameTypeName="SkaarjPack.Invasion",GameHandler=Class'Tunnelcast.GameHandler_Invasion')
GameHandlers=(GameTypeName="UT2k4Assault.ASGameInfo",GameHandler=Class'Tunnelcast.GameHandler_Assault')
GameHandlers=(GameTypeName="XGame.xCTFGame",GameHandler=Class'Tunnelcast.GameHandler_CTF')
The example below matches the default Tunnelcast.ini that ships with Tunnelcast. For most users, only the Token line needs to change. You can customize handlers, plugins, and overrides later if needed.

Remote control (kicking, banning, switching maps and restarts from the Portal) is on by default. If you'd rather not allow it, you can switch some or all of it off in this same file. See Remote Control.

6

Add Tunnelcast to Your Server

There are two ways to get Tunnelcast running on your server:

  • As a mutator: Pick Tunnelcast from the mutator list, or add Tunnelcast.MutTunnelcast to your mutator list.
  • As a ServerActor: Drop this line into the ServerActors section of your UT2004.ini:
ServerActors=Tunnelcast.TunnelcastServerActor
7

Restart Your Server

Restart your game server and Tunnelcast will kick in. If everything went right, your server will show as online on the Tunnelcast portal dashboard and activity will start showing up in Discord.
