Live Status Message

One message in your Discord that keeps itself up to date: the map, the match, how long it's been running and who's playing.

What It Is

Tunnelcast posts one message in a channel you choose, then edits it whenever something changes on your server: the map and game type, the match state, the time elapsed, and who's playing on which team. Nobody has to run a command, and there's never a pile of old updates to scroll past.

#server-status · edited in place

Below the message are buttons to the server's live view on Tunnelcast and, if you post an activity feed, to that channel.

1

Pick a Channel

Give the status message a channel of its own, such as #server-status. In a busy chat channel it would soon be buried under new messages. Making the channel read-only for your members keeps it at the top.

Tunnelcast needs to see that channel, send messages and embed links in it. If you're not sure, see Fix Tunnelcast's Discord Permissions.

2

Turn It On

You'll find the setting under Live status message: on the Add Game Server page when you register a server, and on the Discord tab of its settings afterwards. Switch on Publish status message and choose your Status Channel.

Server settings · Discord tab

Then save: Create Server on the Add Game Server page, or Save Discord Settings on the Discord tab. The message appears in the channel within a few seconds.

Your server needs a linked Discord server first. See Link Discord Server.

Good to Know

  • Updates arrive within seconds. Changes are gathered into one edit every few seconds, and the match time moves in 30-second steps.
  • When your server goes offline, the message stays, turns red and says the server is offline. It comes back to life when the server does.
  • Deleted it by accident? Tunnelcast posts a new one with the next change on your server, or as soon as you save your Discord settings again.
  • Changing the channel or switching it off removes the old message.
  • Several servers can share a status channel. Each keeps its own message.
  • /status in Discord gives a one-off snapshot of the same information, with a button to the live status message.
  • If Tunnelcast can't post there, your server's settings show a Discord Status Embed Permission Issue (or Status Channel Not Found) alert, and you get an email.

Making a Game Mod?

The status message fills itself from what your game reports. How a mod adds its own scores and objectives is covered in:
