Remote Control

Moderate your game server from the Portal, or switch some or all remote actions off in the server's own settings.

HomeGuidesRemote Control
Remote control is currently available for Unreal Tournament 2004. Other games will follow.

What Remote Control Is

The video below shows it in the Live View in under a minute: a kick, a ban, a map switch and a map restart, then the setting on your server that turns it all off. How to turn it off is written out below.

Remote control lets your server's staff moderate from the Live View in the Portal:

  • Kick or ban a player
  • Switch to another map
  • Restart the current map
  • Restart the server

It's on by default. Some owners prefer not to allow any remote actions at all, or only some of them, and that's fine. The chat relay, Discord, the Live View and everything else keep working exactly as before.

1

Turn Everything Off

  1. Stop your game server.
  2. Open System/Tunnelcast.ini.
  3. Under [Tunnelcast.TunnelcastSettings], set bAllowRemoteControl to False:
[Tunnelcast.TunnelcastSettings]
bAllowRemoteControl=False

Save the file and start the server again.

2

Or Turn Off Individual Actions

Happy with kicks and bans from the Portal, but not with restarting the server? Leave bAllowRemoteControl on and add one DisabledRemoteCommands line per action you want to switch off, under the same [Tunnelcast.TunnelcastSettings] section:

[Tunnelcast.TunnelcastSettings]
DisabledRemoteCommands=restartprocess
DisabledRemoteCommands=switchmap
NameAction
kickKick a player
banBan a player
switchmapSwitch map
restartmapRestart map
restartprocessRestart server

Save the file and restart the server.

3

Turning It Back On

Set bAllowRemoteControl=True (or remove the line), and remove any DisabledRemoteCommands lines for actions you want back. Then restart the server.

Why the Switch Lives on Your Server

This setting is part of your server, not your Portal account. When you switch something off, your server simply ignores that request, whoever sends it.

That means nobody can switch it back on remotely: not us, and not someone who gets into your Portal account. Any admin of your server can open the ini and check it for themselves.

What You'll See in the Portal

Anything you switched off disappears from the server's Live View, and a short note explains that it's turned off in the server's own settings. Only your server's staff see these menus.

Live view · Moderation menu

With bAllowRemoteControl=False (step 1), the server actions are gone from the moderation menu. Staff see that remote control is off, with a link to this guide. Analytics and Server settings stay.
