Relay Notice

Every player is told that chat on your server is relayed. Here's what they see, and how often.

What Players See

About 30 seconds after a player joins, Tunnelcast sends them this line in game chat. Only that player sees it:

In game · Chat

The text is fixed. It can't be reworded or turned off, and a player your server hasn't told yet always sees it.

Choose How Often It Repeats

It's possible to choose how often a returning player sees the notice. By default that's once every 24 hours, but if your regulars find that too often, you can make it once every few days or even once a month. New players always see it on their first join. Older Tunnelcast versions (before 1.7.0) ignore this setting and show the notice on every map change.

You'll find it in your server's settings, on the Relay Settings tab, under Relay Notice:

Server settings · Relay Settings tab

Pick an option and click Save Relay Settings. A connected server uses it straight away; there's nothing to restart.

Good to Know

  • The notice can't be turned off, and its text can't be changed.
  • A player is the same player when both their CD key and their name match. A new name, or someone else on a shared CD key, sees the notice again.
  • To remember who has seen it, the server keeps a one-way key for each player and the time they saw it. No names or IP addresses are stored, and entries are removed once the interval has passed.
You are responsible for informing your players that their chat is relayed. The notice helps, but it doesn't replace that. See the Terms of Service.
